Throne Wars by Pravin Shekar has been written by drawing inspiration from our ancient kings and their wisdom used in a war. Author Pravin has skillfully penned the book in a way that gives the reader a glimpse of the life led by the Tamil kings (Cholas, Cheras, Pandyas). The book consists of the stories and lessons of rulers, court strategies, business and marketing lessons, etc. The author has taken reference from Sun Tzu, The Cholas, and The Pandyas.
The book has been divided into three parts. The first part is based on war stories. The second part consists of business strategies and the third part is “Moovendar”. It’s a Tamil word that means three kings. The author has taken it based on Chera, Chola and Pandya.
The author has used a few good metaphors. The story started with three CEOs meeting in a cafe. The author has taken the strategies and tried to apply them in business stories. The concept is quite unique and new. It’s tough to relate it and form a story around it. The author has explained everything with good examples. I liked the metaphorical use of content. The language of the book is lucid so that everyone can enjoy reading it. It was quite an informative read for me. I learned many things and a few business ideas and strategies.
There are 3 separate sections ( story, learning, and implementation) in this book and each section holds some chapters. The chapter’s name will grab any reader’s attention towards it and I became more curious to dig into the plot. At the end of every chapter, there is a unique segment named either INTERPRETATION or Marketing case in point, which made this book more progressive, standard, and easy to understand. The way author brings in marketing concepts, relating the startups and the corporates to the wars and ensuring that while we read about war strategy, we learn about what we ought to do for our own businesses and how can we stay ahead always. How to stay prepared, how to keep pushing, to anticipate, and not always rush into what you think may be the right way. Keep a tab on your competitors and ensure that you don’t get complacent. This is really nice, would be beneficial to apply not only in the business world but also in different phases of complexity in our personal life too.
